Communication is perception

Never before in history has there been so many tools, equipment , techniques and channels available for communication. Yet, surprisingly, communication between people remains a huge problem.

Could it be that we are focussing more on technique, style, technology rather than people?

What constitutes communication?
A communication has three components, the sender, the message and the receiver.  Unfortunately most teachers of management and communications focus primarily on the message and the sender. What to send and how to send it?  Be aggressive, seductive etc etc. they teach. There appears to be little focus on the receiver.
Effective communication depends primarily on the recipient. If the recipient is unable or unwilling to listen then the message is lost if not rendered ineffective, just like the case of the tree crashing in the forest.
Every philosophical school of thought asks this question, "If a tree crashes down in the forest, and there is no one to hear it, will there be a so…

Obedience can be the problem

History has repeatedly shown, that in all societies, the real wealth and power lies with the top 1% to 2% of the population called the ruling elite.
No matter what form of government is in power, the ruling elite always calls the shots for they wish to conserve their privileges and power. That is why these people are called "conservatives"
The ruling elite never like to get their hands dirty, or actually be bothered with details. So they have set up institutions whose power they control indirectly. Each institution has a different role to play , but the net objective is the same, protect the powerful and wealthy to preserve and enhance their power and privileges.
Institutions may differ in style but they all possess one common theme, obedience. They demand obedience, but rarely do people ask obedience to whom, to what and why?
The technique employed is indoctrination, keep the message simple, repeat and reinforce it often.

The home is the place where the indoctrinated elders li…

The annual budget of the government of India will be announced shortly. No doubt there will be many big programs announced, supposedly to help take care of the people.
The political machinery may have changed but the administrative machinery is the same.
I hope and pray the government continues its trend of focuses on facilitating rather than controlling the entrepreneurial spirit of people. Smaller government spending means lower taxes and greater opportunities for well being of the people by the people.

JNU and saving democracy

JNU (Jawaharlal Nehru University), is one of the most prominent universities of India. It has been in the news for a long time due to everything except academics.

JNU claims it is a leading university.  For the enormous resources lavished on setting up and maintaining JNU it has precious little positive outcomes to show for it.

JNU has however distinguished itself by becoming a breeding centre for anti India political thought and action. JNU is just an extreme example of what has become of our premier educational institutes.

How did JNU acquire this dubious distinction?
In every general election, the communist political parties invariably won parliamentary seats that were not huge in number, but significant enough for the communists to make or break coalition governments. In essence the tail wagged the dog.
However unlike most political parties the communists play for the long term. Misplaced as it may be, the communists are ideologically driven and not driven by s…

Conquered. Again?

The nation which makes the best use of the sword will always subjugate the nation which has more gold and less courage.

India was known as the 'golden bird', 'land of milk and honey' and thousand other glorious names, because it was so prosperous. Prosperity bestows comfort. Excess comfort brings laziness which unfortunately erodes courage. This attracts predators. Predators bring destruction. This has been the story of India. ______________________________ India was the most advanced civilisation of its time for thousands of years, yet it was unable to repel Muslim and Christian invaders and their subsequent occupation for a thousand years. Why? The invaders possessed the following traits that assured certain victory to them. A cunning and ruthless disposition. They entered into agreements and signed treaties which they almost always dishonoured Political sanction was granted by the rulers of the invaders and invasions and forced conversions were mandated by the …

Become Financially Intelligent or become a Slave.

One of my consulting clients recently asked me, "What is the leading cause of business failure or organisational collapse?

Research by many prestigious institutions like Dunn & Bradstreet show that the leading cause of organisational failure is bad cashflow management.

Even hard work, sincerity, passion, talent, technology, great products, good markets etc. cannot save an organisation which has poor cashflow management.

Sales is Vanity, Profit is Sanity, Cashflow is Vitality. __________________________________________________

What is cashflow?
Simply explained it is the amount of cash that actually flows in and out through the accounts of a business. It represents the liquidity of funds within a business and in a sense the fuel that allows the business to keep running.

Tiny or very large, more than 85% of all enterprises that fail globally, do so because they were unable to manage cashflows effectively.

As a consequence  of neglecting cashflows or starti…
